look tough.

i'm really liking this 80's "tough" hooker chic look. tight, minimal black leather with zippers, sharp heels. with unruly hair and thick liner with either a nude lip or a strong red lip.

hermione.

i've only read the first three harry potter books. granted i have yet to see a single film, i can't say much about emma watson's acting. but this girl definitely has style. i can't wrap my head around the fact that this little girl has so much access to fashion. NOT. FAIR.

The Graduate

BLAZER HUNTING IN SUMMER.
EARLY START FOR FALL.

"In architecture, professionals spend more time working on the structures, the foundation and the materials before studying the outlook. This is how I work on the clothing, I’m not looking for proportions which are too tight or too loose – but just right for today’s environment. I'm not trying to create something new but to master the standards."

IDLE HANDS ARE THE DEVIL'S TOOLS

I've been meaning to do a post on one of my favorite bloggers. If you don't already read Luxirare you've got to check her out right now. Don't even bother reading the rest of this post. half kidding. Since words don't do her any justice, here is a preview of some of my favorites from her blog.

Aside from having a vast amount of cultural knowledge and great taste, she designs and creates her own clothes.
The details on this dress are amazing.

Floating fur and organza coat!!!

Her lace ups in action with a killer outfit. Nice mask.
She has quite a collection of hardware too.

And she's also pretty handy in the kitchen... roast fillet sandwich, strawberry sherbet, and her own spin on the mojito. (She even does packaging.)

Excuse the easy AA image steal. But since they insist on charging forty-dollars-cause-we-can for it, this is the only image I will have for now.

Mike's Bike

Not really fashion related, but definitely fun. Mike Tang is the proud new owner of this bike. He has been waiting months for this bike. And it is finally on its way here from Taiwan.

Have you smelled the roses today? Some skulls mixed in might be nice.
Cliche & cliche go 'round 'n round.

Maybe we can find a pink basket for Tuffy to ride in over the back wheel. This bike is full of possibilities.

In the Movies

collage, still from 2046; images: Alice- PULP Magazine, Google Images, and Style.com

Never made the connection before but the fashion in Wong Kar-Wai's In the Mood for Love (2000) and 2046 (2004) seems like it inspired Balenciaga Spring 08, Dries Van Noten Spring 08 and Wang Fall 08/ Spring 09 (and others I'm sure). I gained a new admiration for the cheongsam after seeing Maggie Cheung in the vibrant blue and pink floral one, not unlike an ensemble from Ghesquire's spring '08 collection.

Tak's jacket (bottom center) is the perfect male counterpart to the Wang coil dress. I wish I could find better pictures of The Android, played by Faye Wong (top left), in 2046. Her outfits look like they could have been part of Gareth Pugh's inspiration boards for Spring and Fall '09.

William Chang is the costume designer behind these all beautiful pieces. He is also an interior designer, and in addition to winning for Best Costume Design, he also picked up Best Art Direction and Best Editing for the film at the 2000 Hong Kong Film Awards. His range is apparent in his designs for both movies and the overall cohesion between them. Even within In the Mood for Love Chang dresses the traditional cheongsam with a variety of fabrics that capture the different moods of Cheung's character.

Chang is collaborating with WKW for a remake of The Lady from Shanghai set for release in 2010. As it will be another period piece, I can't wait to see what they come up with.
